The Clinic:

Both fencers and their parents can learn the basics of maintaining their equipment, troubleshooting when encountering problems, and fixing it when it breaks. This 2-3 hour clinic (depending on the number of participants) consists of discussions, demonstrations and practical exercises.

Topics include:

      • Breakdown of Each Part of the Weapon

      • Assembly and Disassembly of the weapon

      • Testing, Maintaining, and Repairing Equipment

      • Troubleshooting Problems On and Off the Strip

      • Rewiring a Blade

      • Body Cord Quick Fixes

The Presenter:

Michael Mergens is a USFA certified Armorer, Coach and Referee with over 34 years of experience. He has been Head Armorer for the Capitol Clash SYC for the past 10 years, the 2015 Junior/Cadet World Championships, 2014 Saber Grand Prix, as well as many other USFA National and International events. Additionally, he is a Mechanical Engineer with 25 years of practical design and management experience in the Aerospace and Defense industries.
